New in 2025: Highlights of the "Smart Seniors" Initiative

  • Topics include smart home devices, AI assistant tutorials, and digital wellness

  • "Smart Seniors" Media Workshops: seniors produce their own videos and digital content

  • Community Showcase: highlighting intergenerational projects and innovative tech applications

  • Promoting modern and smart living with youth volunteers and seniors working together

  • Goal: Serving 200+ seniors in our local community and building a new model for “Tech-Enabled Aging”

Key Public Programs

1. STEAM Robotics Education for Children with ASD

  • Small class sizes (1:2 instructor-to-student ratio) with personalized attention

  • Using the VEX IQ platform and visual programming tools

  • Focus on enhancing fine motor skills, logical thinking, and social interaction

  • Over 100 special needs students have gained skills, confidence, and growth through our tailored programs

 

2. “Smart Seniors”— STEAM Programs for Seniors

  • Custom-designed tech workshops for elderly participants

  • Courses include smart device operations, wearable health tech, and practical digital skills

  • Encouraging hands-on learning and cognitive engagement while fostering intergenerational interaction

Running bi-weekly from January to June 2025 — 6 successful events held so far! Key Achievements:

  • Seniors and youth volunteers collaborating on meaningful tech projects

  • “Smart Living” lectures promoting digital literacy and modern lifestyles

  • Open for more senior participants from the local community!

 

3. Youth Leadership & Volunteer Program

  • Recruiting 50+ high school volunteers

  • Providing professional training in ASD education strategies and STEAM teaching methodologies

  • Community service hours credited towards volunteer awards and college applications

  • Empowering young leaders to become the next generation of tech-driven changemakers

 

4. Companion Robot Development Project

  • Led by iSTEAM co-founder Edward Yan

  • Designed for ASD students and seniors as an emotional support and learning assistant

  • Currently in testing phase with plans to expand to broader community use

  • Future Vision: Making technology a trusted companion for every family

 

5. Community STEAM Education & Robotics Competitions

  • Strategic partnership with VEX Robotics to host 4-8 community robotics events annually

  • iSTEAM Academy is the official organizer of the Massachusetts VEX Robotics State Championship

  • Events draw 100+ teams and over 2,000 attendees

  • Dedicated support for teams with special needs students ensures inclusivity at every competition
